Lykabettos hill.
Lykabettos hill.

Many visitors to Greece whether travelling by air or by sea will arrive first to Athens. The city may be their intended destination or they may be passing through, taking a connection to other parts of Greece.

Modern Athens is a noisy, smoggy, traffic-clogged city but a city where ancient and modern exist together. Wherever you are in Athens you will be within site of one of the worlds greatest buildings the Acropolis

and another prominent feature of Athens Lykabettos hill.

The hill is clearly visible at the top of the picture of Athens above and the Acropolis, crowned by the Parthenon, can be clearly seen dominating the centre of the city.

A trek to the summit of Lykabettos hill will give you great views over Athens and the Acropolis and as far as Pireas. The hill is crowned by the whitewashed chapel of Agios Giorgios.
